David Harris:-
In the late 50’s I became a Lawyer in Liverpool, employed by Silverman Livermore. It is this firm that was contacted by Brian Epstein during 1961 to put together a management contract between him and four lads from Liverpool. I had just been made a partner at the firm and it was just chance that I was in the office when Brian visited. I had met with him before both on business and socially with his brother Clive. My wife had become friends with Clive’s wife and that’s how we first met Brian. I was aware that it was Brian’s style to want things done in a hurry. So when in mid December 61, he asked for a contract to be ready for Christmas Eve I was not surprised.

Then later in 1962 I was asked to revise the contract now to be in the name of NEMS, Brian’s company and to include Richard Starkey (Ringo), as Pete Best was no longer to be the drummer. I only met The Beatles once later when they came to my office for a meeting, but never had the chance to meet them again. I was aware of the music scene in Liverpool, but it was not very vibrant. However, I did help Brian a few more times as my firm produced contracts for him for artists such as Cilla Black, Billy J Kramer, Gerry and The Pace Makers and The Searchers.

I am amused that one of my contracts is worth so much money. My son heard something about it on local radio and told me how much it could be worth. What Imagine want to do with this contract through a competition I think is a great idea and I wish them every success.
